Less than two hours south of Perth, Geographe is one of WA’s most captivating and diverse wine regions. It is home to majestic rural and native bush hinterland in the east matched with some of WA’s best beaches and exciting large towns like Bunbury and Busselton in the west. Geographe takes in the towns and areas of Capel, Yarloop, Harvey, Donnybrook, Dardanup and Collie all well known in the region. Here you will also find a diverse range of produce – perfect for the avid gourmet traveler! High in the Darling Range the Wellington Dam is an idyllic picnic spot to sample the crisp wines and local produce you have selected along the way.

The Geographe Wine Region was formally established in 1999 and takes its name from the ship of French explorer, Nicholas Baudin, Le Geographe.

The region produces excellent Shiraz, fine Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. It's also becoming known for some alternative varieties, particularly Tempranillo and Nebbiolo.

The Geographe Wine Region is now home to a significant number of wineries with cellar door sales, each offering something unique. Visitors are encouraged to come and meet the people of the region while sampling some truly fine wines.

Things to know about Geographe

The Geographe region takes in the curve of land on Geographe Bay and extends inland through the Darling Range. The region is divided by several river valleys, which have deposited alluvial soils that are high in nutrient content. This area has long been recognised as some of the best farming land anywhere in Australia and many land owners have been in the area for generations. It is these conditions that in recent years have been recognised as essential for premium grape production. With early planting dating back to the First World War, our early vignerons had great foresight, as today some of the state’s most opulent wines are emerging from this exciting and naturally lovely area.

• The Apple Fun Park at Donnybrook, is the largest free children’s play park in Australia. Complete with BBQ facilities and shade.

• Some trees in the Tuart Forest National Park are up to 400 years old.
