Seafood

Bounded by ocean, Australia's South West harvests some of the freshest seafood in the State.

The fishing boats in Albany, Bunbury and Augusta bring in deepwater fish such as swordfish, dhufish, snapper, tuna and nanagai. While the estuaries offer amateurs the chance to net whiting, bream and blue manna crabs.

Famed for its rich harvest of oysters, Oyster Harbour in Albany is home to several farms - be sure to try this local speciality. Another taste experience not to be missed is marron, a regional delicacy that is a type of freshwater crayfish. Although technically not seafood, it is often rated above its cousin the crayfish. Found in rivers throughout the region, marron can be caught during a short season in summer, while marron farms and many restaurants give visitors the chance to taste this sweet crustacean year-round.

Take time to savour some of the region's seafood on your visit. Catch your own on a fishing charter, or dine in one of the region’s many fine restaurants.
