Heritage Trails

Most towns within Australia’s South West have a heritage trail to follow.  Whether you are on foot or in a car, they are a great way to see how the towns have developed.

The links below will download a fact sheet with information and maps on each of the Heritage Trails.

Bunbury Heritage Trail (pdf 832 kb) - the Bunbury Heritage Trail retraces the development of the City of Bunbury and features sites of historical and natural interest. The trail has two sections:

  • a 12 kilometre Main Trail which you can follow on a bicycle or on foot.
  • a four kilometre City Walk looking at historical buildings in the city's commercial centre.

Margaret River Heritage Trail (pdf 357 kb) - The Margaret River Heritage Trail can be done in three parts.  Choose from a walk along the river, through the natural bushland or across an old railway bridge. The trails offer a half-day outing and can be combined with a picnic or a swim.

Augusta-Busselton Heritage Trail (pdf 431 kb) - The Augusta-Busselton Heritage Trail is a self guiding walking and/or driving tour which retraces the original route linking the settlements at Augusta and the Vasse in the 1830s.

Frankland Heritage Trail (pdf 258 kb) - The Frankland Heritage Trail is a drive of 160 kilometres that highlights the history and development of this mixed farming district.

Mount Barker Heritage Trail (pdf 275 kb) - The Mount Barker Heritage Trail is a 30 kilometre drive tracing the development of the prosperous Mount Barker farming district.  It features sites of historical interest including the lookout, the area's first bridge and the St Werburg's Chapel.
