Kojonup

Kojonup is an Aboriginal name said to mean "place of the stone axe (kodja)” and the stone used to make it (kodj)."

The “Farmstay Capital of Western Australia”, Kojonup is a truly rural and inviting town, which offers visitors the opportunity to spend some time partaking in farm activities such as feeding the animals, collecting eggs and catching yabbies.

Historic Kojonup is home to one of the oldest surviving military buildings in Western Australia, the Military Barracks, which overlooks a sparkling freshwater spring in the town centre.

This classic Australian town has a proud history stretching back centuries to when the nomadic Aborigines were first attracted to the area by the freshwater spring and abundance of game.

Visitors can experience an in-depth look at Kojonup’s history by visiting the Kodja Place Interpretive Centre which showcases local indigenous heritage and culture, and tells the stories of Aboriginal and European settlers.

The Australian Rose Maze is a favourite place to visit, and those who enjoy the outdoors should travel to Lake Towerinning where there is water skiing and camping.
