Lewana Cottages is the ideal place to base yourself to enjoy the picturesque region of Balingup and the surrounding areas including Donnybrook, Nannup and Bridgetown. Surrounded by vast areas of native forest interspersed with orchards and award winning wineries there is plenty to do during your stay. Experience nature by walking part of the Bibbulmun Track or cycle a section of the Mundi Bibbi Track, you can even kayak on the Blackwood River from historic Wrights Bridge.
Lewana Cottages is located on the Balingup to Nannup official tourist drive 251. This forms part of what’s known as the Golden Triangle, three roads that link Balingup, Nannup & Bridgetown. These are three of the most scenic roads in the South-West of Western Australia.
The cottages and other timber buildings are heritage listed by the Heritage Council of Western Australia in their highest category. Lewana is associated with a wide range of land uses, such as pastoralism dairying, forestry and recreational tourism that reflects the changing patterns of usage that have occurred in many areas of the southwest since European settlement.
The property is one of only four former forestry settlements converted to a recreation camp in the 1970s before being sold into private ownership. Lewana is an unusually intact former forestry settlement, and so far as is known, the only such place with an arboretum and extensive plantings of more than 50 varieties of exotic and indigenous trees.
