The first Europeans settled in the south west in the early 1830s, but it’s believed that the traditional custodians of the land, the Aboriginal people, have a connection to the region that spans more than 60,000 years.
Travelling through the south west will offer visitors the opportunity to explore both passages of history, and as well see how today’s locals are leaving their mark through arts, crafts and cultural festivals. Guests will discover a region that is rich in cultural diversity, with a history steeped in Aboriginal dreaming, ANZAC spirit and the legacy of early pioneering families. Remnants of the past can be found in local museums, heritage buildings and cultural attractions.
In present day, the region is a haven for many artists specialising in all styles of art from paintings and sculpture, indigenous art, carved timer furniture, intricate hand-blown glassware and delicate jewellery.
